Botswana is a country bordered by South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe and it is located in the southern part of the continent. Although many people are not aware of it, the country is very famous for its tourism, but even more for its diamond mining. Furthermore, Botswana is also very popular because of its wildlife, which is mainly found in the Kalahari Desert and also in the national parks. Overall, the country is very beautiful and it offers tourists a chance to meet one of the largest San (bushman) populations in Africa.

Things to do in Botswana

Apart from the major cities in Botswana and the Kalahari Desert, there are also some other beautiful places you may want to see while visiting this beautiful country. Let’s look at some of the places you can visit:

  • Okavango Delta. This is a unique geological formation where a delta has been formed due to the fact that a river flows directly into the Kalahari Desert instead of as usually happens, into a sea or ocean. Part of the delta was designated to what nowadays is called the Moremi National Park. Here you can also get a canoe ride from a local guide.

  • Central Kalahari Game Reserve. If you want to see splendor, then this is the place you want to go to before you leave this beautiful country.

  • Chobe National Park. For those passionate about wildlife, this park offers a great variety of animals and it is also the place, which leads to the Victoria Falls.

Also, if you want the full experience of visiting a country such as Botswana, it is mandatory for you to try riding an elephant. During your elephant ride, you can also learn many new things about them and also see zebras, gazelles and giraffes in their natural habitat.

If you enjoy shopping, there are a lot of flea markets where you can get all sorts of things from souvenirs to outfits and gifts. The vendors, like the whole nation of Botswana, are very friendly and you can always make good deals, spending less money on the things you want to buy.

Getting There and Getting Around

As with everything else, it is very easy to get to Botswana. There are more than 60 states whose citizens are not required to have a visa if they want to visit Botswana. For instance, if you are from a country in Europe or from Australia, the United States, Canada, the UK, Singapore, Malaysia or Hong Kong, you may not need a visa. However, others are required to apply for a visa.

If you want to get to Botswana by plane, you have to get first to either South Africa or Zimbabwe, because the main airport, Sir Seretse Khama in Gaborone, does not receive international flights. However, you can also get there by train (only from Zimbabwe), by car or by bus.

Concerning getting around the country, this can be easily done.
