Bordered by Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland, South Africa is a vast country on the southern tip of the continent of Africa. The population here is so diverse that the country has 11 official languages. South Africa is famous for wine production and gold mining. Although parts of South Africa are among the poorest in the world, the country as a whole is one of the richest. There are many cities that are incredibly prosperous and the things you can see in South Africa are amazing.


Things to do in South Africa

 

Apart from the great cities of South Africa, which are amazing in themselves, there are some major attractions which are must-sees when visiting this country:

  • National Parks. For people interested in nature, the national parks of South Africa are wonderful places to visit. They are truly amazing and the places to go to see the fascinating flora and fauna of the country. Open to the public are parks such as: the Kruger National Park, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, the Addo Elephant National Park, the Pilanesberg National Park or the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

  • UNESCO World Heritage Sites.  Learning about aspects of world history is easy here; just visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as: the Cradle of Humankind, Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, the Cape Floral Region and the Vredefort Dome.

 

Shopping in South Africa is really interesting. In most shops the prices are fixed, but venture into the local markets and try bargaining; it is the custom to negotiate prices with the market traders.


Getting There and Getting Around

 

Getting to South Africa is quite easy, as South Africa has about ten international airports, among which the most important are Cape Town International and O.R. Tambo International Airport, which is in Johannesburg. All the international airports in South Africa have incoming flights from all over the world. The most important thing you should do, though, is to check the discount airlines located in South Africa, as you may be able to obtain a cheaper price for your plane ticket.

 

Once you get to South Africa getting around the country is very easy, as there are many different methods of transportation you can use:

  • By plane. Given that the country has a great air travel infrastructure, it is quite easy to get around from town to town by plane.
