An African Villa, Cape Town

An African Villa has the well deserved reputation of being the best boutique hotel in Cape Town. Around 15 minutes walking distance from the hustle and bustle of this elegant city’s centre, it is a tranquil place, suffused with Zen-like calm. An African Villa can be found in Carstens Street in Tamboerskloof - a safe and attractive residential area of Cape Town.

The Hotel

Anyone looking for a boutique hotel in Cape Town will be delighted with the elegant townhouse facade, warm welcoming atmosphere and meticulous attention to detail.
The guesthouse has been created out of three adjoining historic houses dating from the late 1800s. Having been renovated and modernised by the owners, it is decorated in a sophisticated African style, sometimes referred to as African Zen. The general tone is characterized by warm colours strewed with tribal red touches. You will find an eclectic mix of chic African style artefacts, chosen in a very careful and tasty way, from papier-mâché elephant-head lights to fertility dolls from Ghana.

Facilities and rooms

Facilities are as good as you would expect from a highly rated boutique hotel in Cape Town. There are three large common areas: a library, a lounge, a lounge and a dining room. The twelve disarmingly cosy rooms include singles, doubles and triples.

The bedrooms are spacious and artfully decorated with crisp white sheets and all the little extras that a weary traveller appreciates. Air conditioning flat screen TVs and free wifi internet access come as standard. The ‘Platinum’ rooms are have balconies and are generously-sized and comfortable.

There is an inner courtyard and plunge pool where you can relax with a book on a sunny Summer’s day. A full cooked breakfast is the only meal served, and can be taken in the elegant dining room or out by the pool.

The service

The staff is very friendly and nothing seems to be too much trouble. Visitors are given a specially written guide to Cape Town life on arrival. They are encouraged to feel at home, to help themselves from an honesty fridge and to use the kitchen to make sandwiches or snacks.

This boutique hotel in Cape Town gets rapturous reviews from those who’ve stayed here and seems to be highly rated by everyone. The attentive service is frequently praised, and most guests describe their visit as a wonderful, pampering experience. All agree that this is a gem of a guesthouse, sophisticated and cool yet very welcoming, and very reasonably priced too.
