Morocco is a delightful place for people interested in playing golf and abounds in natural beauty. There are more than two hundred holes that have been designed by International masters like Robert Trent Jones or Jack Nicklaus for the pleasure of an enthusiastic player.
Golf was brought to Morocco at the beginning of the last century and has become an obsession with people there. This king of sports was the favourite of the late king Hassan II who had been able to get an International ranking and created competition for the much coveted Hassan II trophy.
Here’s introduction to two major golf courses of Morocco.
Along the beach: the El Jadida Golf Club
45 minutes from Casablanca airport, you will find El Jadida, a nice old town on the Atlantic coast. The beach is a Moroccan destination in the summer, large crowds of Moroccans from Casablanca, Marrakesh, and Fes arrive to tan, and play soccer on the enormous beach. It’s a great place to swim!
There is a lot of natural beauty to greet the golfer wherever he may be on the Royal El Jadida golf course, courtesy Gary Player.The refreshing scent of pine and eucalyptus fills the air in the El Jadida Royal Golf Club. You may see a falcon fly over hole 8 and disappear into the sky. The clouds up in the sky can be seen in the lake near hole 12. Along the fairway from hole 14 there are rows of wonderful araucarias looking like pieces of sculpture. You can reflect over the sparkling white town of El Jadida on the 17th hole and on hole 18 the virgin beaches and sand dunes with flowers on tamarisk and mimosa.
One of the attractions in El Jadida is a walk over the Atlantic at sunset. It would then be truly enjoyable to explore the walls and chapels around the old town. The Medina in El Jadida was founded by the Portuguese in 1513 and has European flavour.
For a golf break in Marrakech: the Royal Golf Club
In Marrakech, the Red city, you will find the oldest golf club in the country. The 18-hole course has become truly iconic and is the perfect place to truly Moroccan golf experience. The greens are surrounded by palm-trees. As you play so you will be able to take in stunning views of the Atlas Mountain range, the fairways snaking their way between the cypress and pine trees on the hills.
Playing at the Royal Golf Club allows you to follow in the footsteps of some iconic world leaders. Winsong the people who have played at the Marrakech golf course are some legendary world leaders like Winston Churchill and former US president Dwight Eisenhower.
Once you've enjoyed a few rounds, why not check out some of the city's other attractions - such as the Majorelle Gardens or its famous souks. The city has other desirable places like the beautiful Majorelle Gardens to attract tourists after you have played a few rounds of golf or you could visit some of its famous markets.
